BrandZ:Solaris Containers for Linux Applications

Using this blog as a reminder for how I setup BrandZ

Steps :
1.Got a x86 box;installed S11 (latest build)
2.Downloaded the packages
SFWrpm from http://opensolaris.org/os/community/brandz/downloads/
SUNWpkgcmdsu from http://opensolaris.org/os/community/brandz/downloads/
bfu.sh from http://opensolaris.org/os/community/brandz/downloads/
SUNWonbld from http://dlc.sun.com/osol/on/downloads/current/
3. Copied BFU archives from
http://dlc.sun.com/osol/brandz/downloads/brandz_release_2006-04-28-tar.bz2

The files in step 3 were copied to /tmp/brandz
4.To BFU the system,these variables next to be set

1. # FASTFS=/opt/onbld/bin/i386/fastfs ; export FASTFS
2. # BFULD=/opt/onbld/bin/i386/bfuld ; export BFULD
3. #GZIPBIN'/usr/bin/gzip ; export GZIPBIN


# cd /tmp/brandz_release_2006-04-28.tar.bz2
# bunzip2 -d -c brandz_release_2006-04-28.tar.bz2| tar xf -
#./bfu.sh brandz_release_2006-04-28
#pwd
This will take you to a directory /bfu.conflicts
#arc
Run the arc (automatic conflict resolution tool) to resolve conflicts
6. Reboot the system
% uname -a
SunOS tulip4 5.11 brandz_release.38_2006-04-28 i86pc i386 i86pc
7. To create a a zone with brand lx
The simplest way is to get a ready to install tar ball available @
http://opensolaris.org/os/community/brandz/downloads/
I picked up the centos-fs-image.tar
8. For a bare minimum configuration (No networking enabled,etc)
only 2 params are needed the zone name and the path to the zones
say zone name = “newzone” and zone-path is /export/zones/newzone
# zonecfg -z newzone "create -B lx; setzonepath=/export/myzone_root"
9. zoneadm -z newzone install -d
# zoneadm list -iv
Here it will list newzone as installed with brand “lx”
# zoneadm -z newzone boot
# zoneadm list -iv
Here it will list newzone as running
# zlogin newzone
bash-2.05b# uname -a
Linux newzone 2.4.21 BrandX fake linux i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

Kodachadri : A fabulous weekend !!!

Sunset @ Marvanthe beach Sunrise @ kodachadri Date : 5th Jan and 6th Jan 2008 Junta : Rani ,Shivaji and Guru, Dakshina Route :Bangalore -Shimoga-Kodachadri Junction-Kodachadri-Kollur-Marvanthe-Kundapur-Bangalore I think its once in a lifetime that u get to catch the sunlight over a hill and sunset over the sea. At least for me it was a great SUN Day :We literally followed the Sun !!! :) For some logistics : We set out by the Friday night 10.30 train to Shimoga .Reached there at 6.45 pm; freshened up; and took a service bus to Kollur [Another 3 hours ]. [You can direcly go to Kollur as well,and travel by jeep directly to Kodachadri ].
