MPLS tunnels and LSPs

Consider a LSP . Let us suppose that R1 receives unlabeled packet P, and pushes on its label stack the label to cause it to follow this path, and that this is in fact the Hop-by-hop path. However, let us further suppose that R2 and R3 are not directly connected, but are "neighbors" by virtue of being the endpoints of an LSP tunnel. So the actual sequence of LSRs traversed by P is . When P travels from R1 to R2, it will have a label stack of depth 1. R2, switching on the label, determines that P must enter the tunnel. R2 first replaces the Incoming label with a label that is meaningfulto R3. Then it pushes on a new label. This level 2 label has a value which is meaningful to R21. Switching is done on the level 2 label by R21, R22, R23. R23, which is the penultimate hop in the R2-R3 tunnel, pops the label stack before forwarding the packet to R3. When R3 sees packet P, P has only a level 1 label, having now exited the tunnel. Since R3 is the penultimate hop in P's level...

One of my favourite poems by Shri Harivansh Rai Bacchan

Jo beet gayi so baat gayi .. Jeevan mein ek sitara tha Maana woh behad pyara tha Woh doob gaya to doob gaya Ambar ke aanan ko dekho Kitne iske tare toote Kitne iske pyare choote Par bolo toote taron par kab ambar shok manata hai Jo beet gayi so baat gayi .... Jeewan mein tha who ek kusum The us pe nitya nyochawar tum Wo sookh gaya to sookh gaya Madhuwan ki chaati ko dekho Sookhi kitni iski kaliyan Jo murjhai phir kahan khili Par bolo sookhe phoolon pe kab madhuvan shok manata hai ? Jo beet gayi so baat gayi Jeewan mein madhu ka pyala tha Tumne tan man de daala tha Woh toot gaya to toot gaya Madiralay ka aangan dekho Kitne pyaale hil jaate hain Gir mitti mein mil jate hain Jo girte hain kab uthte hain Par bolo toote pyalon mein kab madiralay pachtata hai ? Jo beet gayi so baat gayi

Unwinding at Matheran...(May 27 2007)

Perhaps it was the wrong time to visit Matheran ,or the mood wasnt just right or for whatsoever reason.. Matheran didnt turn out to be the beautiful place i expected it to be..Guru and I set out at 5.30 am from home and reached Neral by local train at around 8.00 am. Firstly the long queue at Neral station put off our spirits. The journey by the really slow toy train was just about Ok.Thegood part was that the whole bogey was filled with kids who were super excited with small things that didnt quite as much excite us ..It was good to see them enjoying themselves.Probably Matheran is best visited just after rainy season or at the onset of the rainy reason.Guru was all the time in an imaginative world trying to tell me how the valley might look just after rains and that we shud visit it then. The toy train pulled on really slowly and it was unbearably hot at some places on the route. And it stopped at 3 intermediate stations for aroung 10 mins each .. We finally reached the dusty town of ...

My article on bigadmin!!

Just before leaving Sun our team submitted a whitepaper on the enhancements in SCM . Its been published and here it is http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/features/articles/container_management.jsp

From SCM to MPLS

Among other transitions, that life's taking me thru ,one is the kind of work i am doing. In my prev company ,I was working on SCM(Solaris Container Manager) .And here i'll be working with Routing solutions for networks. So am studying MPLS,routing algorithms and brushing up SNMP .My new company is called Vegayan systems(www.vegayan.com) and the product we are developing is targetted at ISP's and will be used for intelligent routing and will be dealing with traffic engineering ..

In the campus ...

They say life's very fast in Mumbai. But I think it depends on whether how far your workplace is from your home.Life's become easier that way for me in Mumbai .. My workplace is just around a 7 minutes walk from home and it is within the IITB campus --so the only minor inconvenience is crossing the road and walking into the IIT campus which takes you into a difft world altogether ..You forget that u're in a monstrous city like Mumbai and believe me u can feel the change the moment u step into the campus ..you feel u're in a protected and safe world altogether ..That wasy contrary to what ppl told me life's easier in Mumbai .I spent around 2.5 hrs commuting to and fro from office and now i have that much more time to myself here ...So generic statements dont hold true ..

Now in Mumbai ...

They say that the change is the only constant thing in life .. And its very difficult to accept change . Coming from a peaceful place like Bangalore, getting used to Mumbai is taking quite sometime .. Things I miss in Mumbai that I loved abt Bangalore --Darshini's (Shanti sagars ,*sagars) --I didnt find neat decent places to eat here --Idlis --Badlu's cold idlis at KRESIT are no match for the hot steaming idlis that SS's offer .. --Kannada movie hoardings and the silly catch lines each had :) --Nandini outlets and nandini buttermilk --Ganesh fruit juice centre --The vijaynagar market (I stayed at Vijaynagar and visited the veg market daily) --The morning soppu wallas :) --Nalpaka ..(Ppl at navrang would understand ...) --FM radio --radio mirchi --I havent got a radio here ..otherwise there is FM here also ... --BMTC buses and the namma bengalooru lingo ... More to come later

Bad start of a day !!

I had a meeting to attend at 8.30 am ,(which is veryyyyy early by my standards). So I left home by 7.40 am .I had to pay a fare of 6 Rs to travel from Vijaynagar to Majestic .I discovered that I had exact 6Rs and a 100 rupee note. There , I boarded a bus that was going to Richmond Circle . I was just hoping that the lady conductor would have the necessary change(The fare again being 6 Rs) :Usually when they dont ,they only pay u back the rest of the change after grumbling throughout the travel (which is also acceptable). But I was totally shocked when she asked the driver to stop the bus at some point and asked me to get off the bus ! I was in no point to argue and so got down, managed to get an auto and reach office.Ended up paying a couple of Rupees extra to the autowala as well --which is always the case,as they never have the exact change. The idea of a bus pass does not hold for ppl who dont travel regularly by bus. You shud have a smart card which actually simply deducts the fare,...

Using function pointers

I just wanted to check if i still remembered using pointers in C..Its been quite some time since i have used them,so I tried this simple program this morning ...and thought I'd post it .. #include void foo(){ printf("In foo \n"); } int bar(int i){ printf("In bar\n"); return(i+1); } typedef int (*gptr)(int); /* gptr is a function pointer which takes in an int and returns an int */ typedef gptr(*cptr)(gptr); /* cptr is a function pointer which takes in a function ptr of type gptr and returns a function ptr */ gptr cfunct( gptr pf){ gptr rf; pf(6); rf=bar; return(rf); } main(){ int ret; void (*fptr)(); int (*bptr)(int); gptr pfi, rfi; cptr cpfi; fptr=foo; (*fptr)(); bptr=bar; ret=(*bptr)(6); printf("Returned %d from bar\n",ret); pfi=bar; ret=pfi(6); printf("Returned %d from bar\n",ret); cpfi =cfunct; pfi=bar; rfi=cpfi(pfi); ret=rfi(8); printf("Returned %d from ba...

In the foto from L to R : Amit,Pranesh,Sudhee,Shivaji and Rani,Priyanka(Mrs Amit :) ) ,Guru and Dakshina This foto is a reminder of the trip to Hampi when we went to Hospet to attend Ragya's wedding . We also went to the beautiful Tungabhadra dam in our 2 day visit.

2007 --first blog

Just thought that there was no entry this year ..so here i am scribbling something just to start it off and keep it updated .. Anything memorable :My last week trip to Surathkal and to the Udupi Krishna temple ,with ny sis and Dad . My dad wanted to go there to visit the temple, but my sis and I were also happy as we got to go to the beach. There's a beautiful temple near the Surathkal lighthouse and you can have a fabulous view of the sunset . I remember spending my time with friends there when I was studying at NITK .. So this time when I went there I took my sis along .While returning we ate the typical Surathkal Bhel (which has carrots, mango and beetroot!!!) --Its all the same ..The same ppl ,same taste ..nothing seems to have changed much ..the same quiet place --And i hope it stays that way .

Whatever ..

I attended a creativity training this month . It seemed more like a team building exercise .We had plays, had to come out with whacky ideas and it was fun. Planners or spanners ? Life let u be either a planner or a spanner .In a team u can be ,at any time the thinker or just an implement to do the assigned job.Its upto us to take up the role we wish to.Then we learnt abt the six thinking hats,PMI techniques ..Overall good ,coz we had a good group .

An old foto :)
